World's best photojournalism and immersive storytelling arrive in Auckland this month

Presented by the Rotary Club of Auckland and Doc Edge Festival, the World Press Photo 2026 & Doc Edge Immersive Exhibition opens in less than two weeks, bringing together award-winning photojournalism and boundary-pushing documentary storytelling in one extraordinary experience. The exhibition will be held at Auckland’s Smith & Caughey Building from 24 June – 12 July and is supported by Fujifilm New Zealand, Fujifilm Corporation, Auckland Live and Auckland Council Events .

The prestigious annual World Press Photo Exhibition this year presents powerful and thought-provoking images captured by 42 international photographers. Through stories of conflict, family, climate change and more, the exhibition provides a look into the events and moments that have shaped our world over the past year.

Alongside it, the Doc Edge Immersive Exhibition features twelve virtual reality, interactive installation and sensory driven experiences, from local and international creatives. The Immersive Exhibition includes five World Premiere works: Music and the Mystical Experience (dir. Isabel Corfiatis, Michael Sutherland), Lumina (dir. Serena Stevenson), Desiderium: What Stood Here (dir. Ellie Adams), Playground: Waitematā (dir. Studio Auspicious), and Between Life and Death (dir. Juan Nicolas Urquiza, Ash Raymond James, Hebe Kearney).

The Auckland exhibition is supported by Fujifilm New Zealand, extending Fujifilm Corporation’s global partnership with the World Press Photo Foundation into a local context. As a local partner, Fujifilm New Zealand has supported the exhibition through the printing of all exhibition photographs.

“Fujifilm New Zealand is proud to support World Press Photo in Auckland,” says Peter Bonisch, General Manager, Imaging Solutions, Fujifilm New Zealand. “This exhibition places Aotearoa New Zealand within a wider global conversation, bringing powerful stories from around the world to local audiences while reflecting our commitment to supporting visual storytellers from our own region.”

Director of Auckland Live Daniel Clarke says, “ It’s exciting to see an ambitious exhibition of this scale and calibre activate the iconic Smith & Caughey Building and contribute to the ongoing transformation of Auckland's city centre. By bringing together powerful photojournalism and immersive storytelling, it brings people back to this beloved space, offers Aucklanders and visitors a compelling reason to experience the city, and encourages audiences to connect, reflect and learn.”

The Rotary Club of Auckland is proud to bring the World Press Photo Exhibition to Auckland, with all proceeds from the event supporting the Auckland City Mission.
